MODIBEC - Cooperation on Digital Broadcasting Convergence with Mobile Communications between Europe and China

The MODIBEC project is a 24-month, multi-partner Coordination Action that intends to promote and support RTD cooperation between EU and China on digital broadcasting technologies - especially the convergence with mobile communications. It will bring European and Chinese key players in digital broadcasting/mobile convergence areas - such as business and government organisations, academic research labs, standardisation organisations and technology transfer centres - closer to concrete business opportunities and make recommendations for future actions. The aim is to create a transnational network that can eventually be transformed into a research and cooperation platform to achieve a higher degree of integration in research and cooperation.

MODIBEC will organise EU-China networking activities, including two Priority Workshops in Europe and three Regional Priority Workshops in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong in China, at which European and local stakeholders will meet to discuss and define both research and implementation priorities that are in line with their national policies and identify areas and themes suitable for international cooperation. This will be followed by the National Event, at which a large number of stakeholders will be invited to discuss themes within the priority areas identified and make live demonstrations e.g. DAB-TMC.

MODIBEC's results will be an integral part of a permanent effort by the project partners to develop and strengthen EU-China co-operation within the field of digital broadcasting and mobile communications. Results will be immediately applicable to other activities and participants will often have direct business related incentives to continue the work by means of their own resources. The networking activities of MODIBEC will no doubt continue after the completion of the project.
