The MODIBEC consortium is composed of the following partners which are establishing an international cooperation network:

 

 

ERTICO - ITS Europe

 

ERTICO - ITS Europe represents the interests and expertise of around 100 Partners involved in providing Intelligent Transport Systems and Services (ITS). It facilitates the safe, secure, clean, efficient and comfortable mobility of people and goods in Europe through the widespread deployment of ITS.

 

Specifically, ERTICO - ITS Europe provides a platform for its Partners to define common research & development needs acquires and manages publicly funded research & development projects on behalf of its Partners formulates and communicates the necessary European framework conditions for the deployment of ITS enhances the awareness of ITS benefits amongst decision makers and opinion leaders.

 

In MODIBEC, ERTICO - ITS Europe will act as the overall project manager. It will also ensure appropriate cooperation between the key stakeholders and events and is responsible for managing contractual and financial matters. ERTICO - ITS Europe will also assume editorial responsibility for deliverables, as well as produce quarterly and annual progress and management reports. ERTICO - ITS Europe is also responsible for the dissemination activities, and is in charge of this website, newsletters and brochures, as well as reporting results at key stages of the project. ERTICO - ITS Europe will assist PTV in the analysis of priorities and setting of strategies for MODIBEC. It will mobilise the European stakeholders and SMEs, as well as ensure that the Chinese partners involve their local stakeholders. It will, with the help of WorldDAB, bring the key European stakeholders to the activities in China and co-chair these events. workshops, events.

WorldDAB

 

The World DAB Forum is an international non-governmental organisation with the objective of co-ordinating the implementation of DAB Digital Radio services based on the Eureka 147 DAB system. The organisation has over 100 members all over the world including broadcasters, regulators, governments, manufacturers, and research institutes. Its contacts also cover all major Chinese broadcasters and operators in digital broadcasting.

 

WorldDAB will coordinate the MODIBEC event activities including workshops, live demonstrations, and national events. It will also assist ERTICO to define priorities and work plans.

SARFT/ABS

 

The China State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) is the national policy maker that regulates the broadcast network, standards and contents. The Academy of Broadcasting Science (ABS), as the research arm of SARFT, was established in 1958 and is subordinated to the SARFT. As the highest ranked research institute for broadcasting in China, the ABS supports SARFT for crucial broadcasting science decisions in terms of planning, strategy and direction. The ABS is composed of 6 research institutes: Broadcasting Science, Cable TV, Wireless Technology, Internet Technology, Communication and Information, and Science and Economy. ABS also implements many national and industrial standards, and works together with SARFT to conduct key scientific planning.

 

SARFT/ABS will help to define the Chinese research priorities, as well as assist ERTICO in making strategic plans and chairing the working groups/breakout sessions during MODIBEC events.

Jolon

 

Beijing Jolon Digital Media Broadcasting Co., Ltd is affiliated to Beijing Radio Station. It was the first broadcaster in China to obtain a government license for DAB Broadcasting that covers Beijing and its surrounding area. Jolon started the first DAB trail in April 2005 and launched the commercial services a year later. They include 6 services with a coverage area of about 2,800km2, 12 million people and 1.5 million vehicles. Jolon has also been working with Blaupunkt and JVC on developing in-vehicle receivers.

 

In MODIBEC, Jolon will help define the Chinese digital broadcasting-related priorities. It will also identify and invite key stakeholders to the MODIBEC events, especially in Beijing, and use its contact network to advertise MODIBEC events within China. Jolon will also co-organise the Priority Workshop in Beijing.

OPG

 

Shanghai Oriental Pearl (Group) Co., Ltd (OPG) is a member of the Shanghai Media and Entertainment Group. It has 23 subsidiary companies including Shanghai Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower, Shanghai Oriental Transmission Co. and Shanghai Mobile TV Multimedia Inc. - which started the first mobile TV service in China. OPG launched trials of a mobile TV project at the beginning of 2005. Shanghai plans to launch six video and 12 audio services for the DAB/DMB business. The coverage area is 6,000Km2, reaching a population of 16 million.

 

In MODIBEC, OPG will help define the Chinese digital broadcasting-related priorities. It will also identify and invite key stakeholders to the MODIBEC events, especially in Shanghai, and use its contact network to advertise MODIBEC events within China. OPG will also work with Blaupunkt and Autonavi for the live demonstration of DAB-TMC at the National Event and co-organise the priority workshop in Shanghai.

China Satcom

 

China Satellite Communications Corporation (China Satcom), one of the six basic telecommunications operators in China was founded in 2001 under the management of the Ministry of Information Industry. China Satcom's member enterprises include China Telecommunications Broadcast Satellite Corp., China Orient Telecommunications Satellite Company Co, Ltd., China Space Mobile Satellite Telecommunications Co, Ltd., China Posts & Telecommunications Translation Service Corp. and China Telecom (Hong Kong) Chinasat Corp. The main services of China Satcom include satellite special services in communications, broadcast and other fields, satellite mobile communications services, Internet services and VSAT services; network services, 3.5G WLAN services, 800MHz trunking services and comprehensive data services based on GPS, audio, data and multimedia services based on satellite transmission technology; some technical services and some import/export services relating to the above satellite communications services, as well as some other state-authorised services.

 

China Satcom will help define the Chinese telecommunication-related priorities in MODIBEC. It will also identify and invite key stakeholders to MODIBEC events and use its contact network to advertise MODIBEC events within China.

CRTA

 

China Radio & TV Equipment Industrial Association (CRTA) is an association subordinated to Ministry of Information Industry (MII). Partnered with China Radio & TV Equipment Industry Association, and supported by MII and SARFT, CRTA organised the first annual international DAB/DMB conference in October 2006.

 

CRTA will coordinate the communication with MII and help identify and invite key stakeholders to MODIBEC events in the area of digital broadcasting and mobile communications. It will also use its contact network to advertise MODIBEC events within China and co-organise the Priority Workshop in Beijing and the National Event in China.

PTV (Technical Coordinator)

 

PTV AG provides software, consulting and research for Traffic, Mobility and Logistics. Founded in 1979, it has more than 350 employees in the parent company in Karlsruhe, Germany and numerous branches and subsidiaries in Germany, Europe and the US. PTV AG is actively opening national and international markets.

 

PTV will coordinate the MODIBEC's research activities. It will define research priorities, as well as assist ERTICO with making strategic plans and chair the working groups/breakout sessions during MODIBEC events.

NSNB

Blaupunkt

 

Blaupunkt, a subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH, is a leading manufacturer of radios, navigation devices, telematics products, sound systems and antennas for cars and buses. It is also known for digital receiver technologies, audio processing and precise routing algorithms for in-car navigation. Blaupunkt notes that it is one of the inventors of traffic information distribution based on digital broadcast (DAB-TMC). Its products are sold in the original equipment business and in the after market.

 

Blaupunkt will actively participate in MODIBEC activities and, together with OPG and Autonavi, make a live demonstration of DAB-TMC.

GTM

 

As a joint venture between Maywide Technology Co. Ltd., Guangdong Southern Media Corporation and Guangdong Television Station, Guangdong Mobile TV Media Co. Ltd. (GTM) is positioned as an incubator of a new generation of mobile TV media services covering Guangdong province. With its core competency in the fields of media, communications and social services, the company has made full use of its resources to launch the first DMB trial project in Guangdong, providing consumers new wireless multimedia entertainment services such as music, news, sports, games, etc, and preparing them for the coming era of mobile TV.

 

GTM will help define the Chinese digital broadcasting-related priorities in MODIBEC. It will also identify and invite key stakeholders to MODIBEC events, especially in Guangdong, use its contact network to advertise MODIBEC events within China and co-organise the priority workshop in Guangdong.

 

 

Autonavi

 

Established in 2001, AutoNavi Software Co., Ltd., a leading supplier of digital maps in China, supplies map data to major OEMs. It also enjoys a high reputation in LBS as the supplier of National GIS Platform / Map DB to China Mobile. Autonavi has developed various LBS solutions for enterprises and government, and supplies map DB & applications for over 350 websites. The company has been appointed by the Chinese Government as organiser of the NaviForum - International Navigation Industrialization and Technological Development Forum.

 

Autonavi will actively participate in MODIBEC activities and, together with Blaupunkt and OPG, make a live demonstration of DAB-TMC. It will also co-organise the priority workshop in Shanghai and the national event in China and promote MODIBEC through its NaviForum events.

 

 

Thomson

 

Thomson Broadcast & Multimedia (formerly Thales Broadcast & Multimedia) is a leading provider of digital TV and radio broadcasting systems and equipment platforms for IPTV services (TV services over Internet Protocol), video-on-demand, and Mobile TV. It is well-positioned to offer end-to-end products and services, in particular in the fast-growing IPTV, Mobile TV and Digital terrestrial transmission (DTT) markets, with solutions encompassing every component of the video chain. Thomson aims to address the rapidly increasing demand across various markets for multidistribution access of video content. It also aims to increase its position in the high-growth IPTV and Mobile TV markets.

 

Thomson will actively participate in MODIBEC activities and organise working groups for the demonstration of DRM-DVB-T/H.
